SPSS Topics Discussion > Checking variable values are correct

Hi

I know little about SPSS and I'm trying to educate myself. Q: I have recoded variables (60) into new variables and changed the variable values coding from the original data set also. How can I go back to 'double check' the variable value that I assigned to the recoded set is correct. I did assign value labels but i really want to recheck the variable value coding that I changed. I hope this makes sense.

Thnx

Jen

Hey Jen,

The best way to be sure that you recoded variables correctly, is to use the SPSS recode functions (under the transform menu), to allow SPSS to do the work for you. I'd recommend pasting the syntax, instead of clicking "OK" to run the task, so that you can always double-check the accuracy of your recode in the syntax, instead of having to check each cell in the data separately.
