Dear all

I am doing my questionnaire analysis using SPSS V13

my questionnaire is studying effects of shift work on operators in a refinery company
i am facing a problem in analyzing one of questions, and it is mentioned below

"Q.Have you experienced any of the following symptoms as a result of your roster:
Backaches
Continual tiredness
Digestive disorder
Feeling angry or irritable
Feeling depressed
Frequent colds or Headaches
and so on.......
"
and the subject might answer one of the following answers
"Before starting Shift work {}
Since starting Shift work {}
Never {}"

now how can i fill up this question`s cell in my main SPSS spreadsheet so i can carry forward with the analyzing

please help

Ayman,

First of all, allow me to apologize for the extremely delayed nature of my response. Unfortunately, my forum notifications were being sent to an inactive email, so I didn't become aware of new posts for a long time. To answer your question, I would assign your responses numeric codes (e.g. none=0, before shift=1, since shift=2). When it is time for analysis, you might want to recode this variable into dummy codes, depending on the type of analysis you do, but this is a good place to start.

Also, in variable view, be sure to assign your codes (whatever you choose) their respective values (in the "Value Labels" column). I hope this helps!

I think this is the same Ayman that I've been helping with a survey of shift workers in the oil industry in Oman. Dummy variables is only one way to handle this: SPSS has a command MULT RESPONSE which is quite straight forward to use. There's a whole section on multiple response on my website: http://surveyresearch.weebly.com/33-multiple-response-mult-response.html

If you let me have your email address I can write to you direct and we can swap ideas.

PS I can only get one of your ten stats term explanations (std dev): how do I get the other nine?
