Misc. Stats Topics Discussion > Easy explanation of Rao Scott?

Hi, I noticed some bloggers like TGGP of entitledtoanopinion and Prof. Caplan of econlog regularly post some GSS spreadsheets that have parameters that include "Rao-Scott" calculated automatically.

I'm looking for a good, easy explanation of Rao-Scott from you, since they seem to be fairly rare on the web.

    Thanks for the awesome blog.

    Greetings Hopefully Anonymous,

First of all, I asure you that you are indeed anonymous, so no need to worry. In terms of the Rao-Scott correction (also called the RS correction), this is a corrected/adjusted version of a typical Pearson chi-square. It is used to account for the violations of equal probability across likert responses in survey data. It is a very complicated concept, but here is a link that explains it better (and more thoroughly) than I could in this forum:

    I hope this is helpful!
    Thanks!
